koh kood beach, Trat, ThailandSituated far from the mainland, the water around Koh Kood is emerald green and clear. It is still relatively unknown to tourists and so it is peaceful and pristine. It is a good place to relax and get away from it all.

There is only 1 main road on the island and it cuts straight down the middle connecting all the important places. There are minor roads along the western beaches which only allow motorbikes and bicycles.

Koh Kood has many beautiful and quiet beaches:

Ao Yai Kee is a very long beach with calm waters. It is excellent for swimming but is hard to reach. You can either walk or hire a long tail boat. The peaceful atmosphere is compensation for the difficulty in getting there.

Ao Ta Pao is 400 meters long with white sands and emerald green water.

Ao Ngam Ko is simply paradise on earth. The mountains shelter the bay so the water is as smooth as glass. The white sands and coconut trees add to the breathtaking beauty.

Ao Prao is in the south west of the island. It has a very long white sand beach and emerald green water reflecting the gently swaying coconut trees. It is a perfect place to relax.

Ao Kluy is a fine white sand beach with clear water. Surrounded by rocky cliffs, it is only accessible by boat unless you stay at the adjoining resort. Its main attraction is its privacy and it is recommended to book a trip there in advance. It boasts a fine array of marine plants and is excellent for diving or snorkeling. There are no shops or facilities.

Lam Tien is on the far south of the island next to Ao Yai. It can only be reached on foot from Ao Pra or Ao Krating. On clear days it offers excellent views of the mainland. There are few facilities here.

Ao Yai is at the bottom of the island on the east coast. A 4-kilometer trek through the foothills links it to Ao Prao. Another way of getting there is by boat. Cutting deep into the island, the bay is protected from the weather and it is an important natural harbor.

Ao Jak Beach is on the east coast, has white sands and stretches for 500 meters. It is excellent for swimming and watching the sunset.

Ao Klong Chao (Klong Chao Beach) is on the west of the island and is connected with the Lan Hin Dum dock by a concrete road. It is clean with a white sandy beach. To the south are fertile mangrove forests. To the north is the busy Chao canal. It is a favorite tourist spot.

Bang Bao Beach is small and cozy surrounded by boulders and palm trees. The fishing village is built on stilts over the sea and cheap accommodation can be found here. The beach is not suitable for swimming due to the nearby mangrove forest. Fresh and dried seafood can be had for bargain prices.

Klong Hin Beach is in the same area as Bang Bao Beach and Ao Prao. Pathways and motorcycle tracks stretching approximately 2-3 kilometers connect these beaches together. It is a fine white sand beach with sandstone. It is perfect for relaxing, swimming and watching the sunset.

Ao Yai Kerd is in the north east of the island. It can only be reached by boat. It is off the tourist map as it is so remote. The cliffs protect it from the weather. The water is very clear.
The Koh Kood Island Resort is based here. The accommodation is unique with bungalows built out into the sea and connected by wooden bridges.
